Course Development
The course was developed to meet the needs of the civil service and private
industry in Tonga for suitably trained accounting staff. A Curriculum
Development Advisory Committee, comprising representatives from the
Ministry of Finance, the Tonga Development Bank and the Principal of the
Community Development Training Centre (CDTC) oversaw the development of the
course. This group continues to provide advice regarding the management of
the course.
In February 1996, a review of the course was undertaken by the Dean of
Commerce and accounting staff from the Swinburne University of
Technology, Melbourne. As a result of this review, the diploma was modified
to incorporate the curriculum and assessment currently in use with the
Technical and Further Education (TAFE) Diploma in Accounting. This TAFE
Diploma operates under the Australian National Syllabus (ANS).
